ABULUKA What does this mean? This word originates from the African language "LUBA " witch is spoken in the district "KASAI" in Congo, and means: BEING DIFFERENT Witch is the least one can say about the Basenji. Many people ask me where this interest in the Basenji is coming from. The answer on this is easy. I'm born in Belgian Congo, in Luebo, a small town in the province of Kasai. My parents have worked for 12.5 years in different parts of Congo and have seen the Basenji living in the wild. |
Since 1997 we are passionated by the Basenji. After being on a waiting list for 3 years, we were finally blessed with our first Basenji, a dame. Mutabaruga's Burning Spear, calling name Masai was taken into our family. From day one, she had to stand up to a pack of different dogs. We had already 4 other dogs, all males. Masai is the first dog who came into our family as a puppy. It didn't take long for her to become the boss over all the other dogs. Our breeder (Noel Baaser) told us there was another Basenji on his way to Belgium, coming from England (Sally Wallis). She told us this male was coming to a town close to us. To my big surprise, Congo (Zande Dalasini) was going to live at the home of one of my best friends who is living at less then 3 km from our home. Needless to say that this mutual interest in the Basenji brought us closer then before. Congo is often coming to our home to play for hours with Masai and the other dogs. In the mean time Congo has produced the very first Basenji litter born in Belgium. His offspring has been spread into different country's.
